People look for an eye care clinic when they need something specific: a routine exam, a new prescription, contact lenses, a child's first eye exam, or new glasses. They search Google with words like "eye doctor near me", "optometrist [city]" or "eye exam this week", and they book with a clinic that shows up, accepts their insurance and has an opening soon.
That makes Google Ads and SEO a natural fit for optometry and eye care clinics, and for healthcare clinics in general. The demand already exists. The work is making sure your clinic is the one they find and that booking is easy. Here is how we approach it, with a focus on the marketing side only.
Eyeology.com, an eye care clinic, ran Google Ads with us and drove 62 leads and 4 phone calls within its first week, 66 in total, at $5.89 per lead. Their summary: each of these high-intent leads cost less than $6, which they called "extremely good economics."
The reason this works is intent. Someone searching "optometrist accepting new patients" is not browsing. They need an appointment. If your ad matches that search and your page lets them book, the cost per lead stays low.
Split your campaigns by visit type, so every ad and landing page matches the search that triggered it.
Add negative keywords from day one: "jobs", "salary", "school", "online eye test", "cheap glasses online" and the names of online retailers. Check the search terms report weekly and keep adding to it.
Patients choosing a clinic want to know four things: are you nearby, do you take my insurance, when can I get in, and can I trust you. Answer all four in the ad and on the page.
Keep the copy about access and experience. Avoid making claims about medical outcomes, follow the ad platforms' healthcare policies, and make sure your forms and tracking respect the privacy rules that apply to your clinic. Never put patient details in page URLs or ad tracking parameters.
Ads bring patients now. SEO builds a channel you do not pay for per click. The strongest clinics run both.
Eyeology.com did exactly that. Amrit S. reached #1 on Google for 22 keywords in 30 days, and told us, "We rank #1 in Google for pretty much every keyword we attempted to rank for." With both the paid and organic results working, a clinic shows up more than once on the same search.
For an eye care clinic, the SEO basics look like this:
The approach works beyond optometry. David E.'s laser hair removal business went from 0 to 11 keywords on the first page of Google in 30 days with the same process: clear service pages built around the exact searches.
For "near me" searches, the Maps pack is often what patients see first.
Clinic front desks are busy. Calls go to voicemail during check-in rushes, and web forms wait until someone has a free minute. Every delay is a chance for the patient to book elsewhere.
Leads are the first signal. What matters is booked appointments, show rate and new patients by source. Set up call tracking and conversion tracking for booked appointments, compare campaigns by visit type, and move budget to the services that bring in the most new patients. Review it weekly at first, then monthly once it settles.
We run Google Ads management and SEO for eye care and other healthcare clinics, including Local SEO for Google Maps and Apple Maps and AI setters that book appointments around the clock. Every account gets a dedicated campaign manager, weekly reporting and ongoing split testing, and our SEO is white hat only.
