How Paving, Deck and Landscaping Companies Get Booked Jobs From SEO and Google Maps

Paving, deck and landscaping work is local, seasonal and high ticket. A homeowner who wants a new driveway or a backyard deck is not scrolling social media hoping a contractor appears. They open Google, type what they need and the name of their town, and call one of the first few companies they see. If you are not in those first few spots, you are not in the running for that job.

That is why SEO and Google Maps are the most direct path to booked jobs for outdoor contractors. The search already carries the intent. Your job is to be the company that shows up, looks trustworthy and is easy to call.

Here is how we approach it for paving, deck and landscaping companies, and what you can start on this week.

Start With the Searches That Turn Into Jobs

Not every keyword is worth chasing. "Landscaping ideas" brings people looking for inspiration. "Interlock driveway contractor near me" brings people ready to get a quote. Build your list around service plus location, and around the specific jobs you want more of.

  • Service plus city: "asphalt paving [city]", "deck builder [city]", "landscaping company [city]"
  • Specific job types: "interlock driveway", "composite deck installation", "retaining wall contractor", "patio pavers", "sod installation"
  • Commercial terms, if you want bigger contracts: "parking lot paving", "commercial landscape maintenance", "commercial snow removal"
  • "Near me" versions of each, which Google mostly answers with the Maps pack

Group the list by service and pick the ten to twenty searches tied to your best-margin jobs. Those become your service pages and your Google Business Profile categories.

Build One Page Per Service, Not One Page for Everything

A single "Services" page with a bullet list will not rank for twenty different searches. Google wants a page that clearly answers one search. Give each core service its own page: driveways, patios, retaining walls, decks, fences, lawn care.

Each page needs:

  • A headline that matches the search, like "Interlock Driveway Installation in [City]"
  • Photos of your own finished jobs, not stock images, with descriptive file names and alt text
  • The areas you serve, written out by town or neighbourhood
  • What the job involves, how long it usually takes, and what affects the price
  • Reviews from customers who bought that specific service
  • A phone number and a short quote form near the top, repeated at the bottom

That last point matters more than most contractors think. Ranking gets you the visit. The page decides whether the visit turns into a call.

When Vishal P. at Ankeny Deck Specialist started with us, the goal was simple: show up when people in his area searched for deck work. In 60 days he was ranking #1 for 20 keywords, with a total of 61 keywords on the first page of Google, and in his words his traffic "drastically increased." That kind of spread across dozens of searches comes from building out real pages for real services, not from one homepage trying to do it all.

Treat Your Google Business Profile Like a Second Website

For local searches, the Maps pack often shows above the regular results. Where you land there comes down to your Google Business Profile, how close you are to the person searching, and how much Google trusts your listing. You control more of that than you might think.

  • Categories: Pick the most specific primary category, such as "Paving contractor" or "Deck builder", and add secondary categories for the other work you do.
  • Services: List every service with a short description, using the same words people search.
  • Service area: Add the towns you actually work in. Do not list places you never go.
  • Photos: Upload job photos every week during the season. Before and after shots work well.
  • Reviews: Ask every happy customer when the job wraps up, and text them a direct review link. Reply to every review.
  • Posts: Share finished projects and seasonal offers so the profile stays active.
  • Name, address and phone: Keep them identical on your website, Google, Apple Maps and every directory.

Do not forget Apple Maps. iPhone users who ask Siri for a contractor or search inside Apple Maps get results from Apple Business Connect, not Google. It is a listing many local businesses overlook, which makes it an easy place to stand out.

Make It Easy to Book the Estimate

Outdoor contractors lose a lot of jobs between the click and the estimate. The homeowner fills out a form on Saturday, nobody calls until Tuesday, and by then they have booked someone else. Speed decides a lot of these.

  • Answer the phone during business hours, or forward calls to someone who will.
  • Reply to form leads within minutes, not days. A text that says "Got your request. When is a good time to come see the property?" is enough to hold the lead.
  • If you cannot reply that fast yourself, an AI chat or SMS setter can reply in seconds and book the estimate on your calendar.
  • Ask for the address and the type of job on the form, so you can qualify the lead before you drive out.

Track Booked Jobs, Not Just Rankings

Rankings are a means to an end. What you want to know each month is how many calls and forms came from search, how many turned into estimates, and how many turned into signed jobs. Set up call tracking, tag form leads by source, and ask every new customer how they found you.

That is the number Charlie B. at Kingsway Paving cares about. In the first 30 days of his SEO plan, he reported $80k in booked jobs. Not impressions, not clicks. Booked jobs.

Anna L. at TerraDesign saw the same pattern. After reaching #1 on Google for 8 keywords, she told us it "brought us tons of new leads" and that they landed some very large corporate jobs. When your work ranks, the right customers find you, including bigger contracts you may not have been pitching for.

Plan Around the Season

SEO takes time to build, so start before your busy season, not in the middle of it. If spring is when homeowners start calling about patios and decks, the pages, profile and reviews should be in place during the winter.

Use the slow months well. Publish pages for the jobs you want to sell next year, collect reviews from this year's customers, add fresh project photos, and fix anything on the site that slows down mobile visitors. Many outdoor companies also run winter services like snow removal or holiday lighting. Each of those can get its own page and its own category on your profile, so your search presence keeps working all year.

What We Do for Outdoor Contractors

Our SEO and Local SEO work for paving, deck and landscaping companies covers everything above: keyword research by service and town, service pages built to convert, Google Business Profile and Apple Maps setup, a review system, and white hat link building. You get a dedicated campaign manager and weekly reporting, so you always know where your calls are coming from.

When a company needs leads while rankings build, we pair SEO with Google Ads. And we can add AI setters that reply to every lead in seconds, so no estimate request goes cold over a weekend.
